If the data given by monitoring firm
SocialBakers is to be believed, Facebook has lost nearly 600,000 users
last month in December in the UK, registering a dip of about 2.88
percent.
Analysts believe that the fall in the
number of users might be an outcome of Facebook’s privacy policy while
others say “too much Facebook” is also a big reason for this downfall.
The Guardian in it’s report suggests that the data fuels the speculation
about the social network reaching it’s saturation point in core
markets.
Though, the Social Networking giant has
dismissed the numbers as soon as they were out citing that the data
released by Socialbakers has been gathered using Facebook’s advertising
tool which doesn’t necessarily always provide a complete picture of the
full set of users. In it’s statement the company says,
From time to time, we see stories about Facebook losing users in some regions.
Some of these reports use data extracted
from our advertising tool, which provides broad estimates on the reach
of Facebook ads and isn’t designed to be a source for tracking the
overall growth of Facebook. We are very pleased with our growth and with
the way people are engaged with Facebook – more than 50% of our active
users log on to Facebook in any given day.
UK ranks sixth in SocialBakers’
index of countries with most active Facebook user base, with more than
33 million users accessing the website in December which amounts to a 53
percent market penetration, only trailing to the United States which
has a market penetration of 54 percent.
While the speculations are high
regarding Facebook’s saturation point in core markets, developing
nations like Brazil and India continue to grow with second and third
largest user base on the social network respectively. India has shown a
growth rate of 2.47 percent with 62,761,420 active users on Facebook,
adding 15,53,320 users last month.
